30 Day Blog Challenge Day 10 | Best Trip of My Life

I'm going to take a bit of artistic license here. Instead of talking about the best holiday/day trip (which is what I assume is meant by the title), I am going to tell you a rather embarrassing story, one that when I hear the word 'trip' comes to mind. This was certainly the best 'trip' of my life!

When I was in college, probably 16 or 17, for some reason I used to catch the bus to my friends house then walk about a mile to college with her almost every day. This was really daft because my house was closer than hers, and in the totally opposite direction. I think I liked a good old natter on the way. I caught the same bus every morning, and being a commuter into town, there were usually the same people on it. A few of them I got talking to over time, but there was one boy that I had a huge crush on and never plucked up the courage to talk to.

After talking with my friends, I decided that I was going to pluck up the courage and speak, we had been smiling at each other for months so it shouldn't be too bad just to say 'hello' or 'good morning' even with my confidence not very high. The day I decided to do it the heavens opened, it was pouring down, so I already knew I wasn't going to look my best. But knowing I'd have to tell my friends if I had spoken or not, I knew I couldn't back out now.

I walked to the bus stop and got absolutely drenched, my hair was everywhere and sticking to my face, not the best look I think you'll agree. The bus pulled up and, possibly because the weather was so bad, it was packed. Every single seat was taken apart from one right at the back. Knowing my crush was on there, I tried my best to look cool walking to the last available seat, just as I was approaching him the bus left the stop. I wobbled a bit but kept my composure and smiled at him, he gave me a big smile back and just as I went to talk I went flying! Some idiot had left their umbrella in the aisle. I tripped over it, slid on the wet floor and done the splits (my body is not that flexible, so you can imagine). I was half way through saying 'hello' to him when this happened, but all that came out of my mouth was "hellOOOOOOOO". The entire bus stopped dead and went silent, all you could hear was my scream. I was mortified! He jumped up and asked if I was ok, all I could do was laugh. You know that hysterical laugh when you don't know what else to do? Yeah, one of those. I scurried off to my seat and stared out of the window the entire bus ride.

I took a different bus the following day, knowing that most of the people would be on the same one, I just couldn't face it. I never saw him again. Looking back now I think it's hilarious, but at the time I was horrified. It wasn't so much that I fell over (I think most of us have at some point), it was that I was trying to act all cool in front of him. I don't think I'll ever forget the noise that came out of me as I tripped.

Hopefully, this was a little more entertaining than me telling you about my week at Disneyland or day trip to Alton Towers.
