If you know me personally, or if you've been a reader for a while, you'll already know of my obsession with all things Harry Potter. I have all of the books, the films (multiple copies of each one) and a few replica props from the films. The latest thing I am happy to add to my collection is the Time-Turner* worn by Hermione in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
With a chain length of 26" and the pendant measuring in at 1 3/4", the Time-Turner sits just at the top of my cleavage, but without it going so low that it draws unwanted attention. It's just the right length to wear with either a round or a v-neck without it disappearing inside the top. It's gold plated, but unlike a lot of gold plated jewellery doesn't look brassy or yellow, it's actually a really nice colour and doesn't look out of place next to my real gold pieces. I also really like the fastening on the chain, rather than it being a lobster clasp, which I have trouble doing up myself, this is a simple push-through, so even the clumsy amongst us can do it on our own.
All three sections of the pendant move independently, but when worn it lies flat against the body. The sand in the hour glass does move freely from one chamber to the other, something which I was pleased about. I've looked at similar necklaces in the past, but have never bought one because the hour glass didn't work. The original quote inscribed on Hermione's Time-Turner reads:
"I mark the hours, every one, Nor have I yet outrun the sun. My use and value, unto you, Are gauged by what you have to do"
While initially the markings on this pendant look the same, what it actually says has some spelling mistakes and the entire quote isn't finished. However, I don't think that anybody would notice that unless they're very up-close and personal with you.
I'm really happy with my Time-Turner and know I'll get a fair bit of wear from it. If this kind of jewellery isn't your thing, it would make a lovely gift for the Harry Potter fan in your life, even if it's just to keep as a prop.
You can buy one of these lovely Time-Turner's from Amazon for only £5.49.
What do you think, is this something that you'd wear?
