The Vegan Kind Beauty Box #2 | First Impressions

Ever since my first The Vegan Kind Beauty Box arrived on my doorstep back in November, I've been counting down the weeks until my next one was due. Unlike most subscription boxes, The Vegan Kind sends its beauty boxes out every three months, so you have plenty of time to look forward to your next one. I much prefer to get a box quarterly rather than every month; for one it doesn't cost as much, and you also have enough time to use each product from the previous box to form a real opinion on it. After being so impressed with my first ever box from TVK, I have to say I was a little disappointed with this one.

White Rabbit Skincare Comfort Cleansing Balm
50ml (RRP 7.50)

I'll start off with the thing I'm most excited about, that is the Comfort Cleansing Balm from White Rabbit Skincare. I've been looking for a cleansing balm for a while now, but have been finding it difficult to find a vegan one that I'm not allergic to, so I was happy to see this in the box. It doesn't contain any ingredients I'm allergic to, but I really dislike the scent. Due to the inclusion of eucalyptus oil it smells like Vicks Vaporub, something which I wouldn't be too keen on putting on my face. However, I am looking forward to trying this out and seeing how I get on with it. It also comes with a white flannel, which I'm always happy to receive as I use 3 a day.

Premae Skincare Mild Dermabrasion Face & Body Scrub
20ml RRP £5.00 - full size £25 for 100ml)

I'm disappointed with this product for one reason; it's tiny. This is nothing more than a sample, and probably wouldn't last more than three or four uses, certainly not enough for me to form any kind of lasting opinion on it. It's labelled as a "face and body scrub", I don't know about you, but my body is way too big for this small pot. Still, it smells nice and fresh and I'll give it a go, but probably won't review it because I like to give new skin care a month, and there's not enough of this to last a month.

Olivia Soaps and Balms Chocolate and Coconut Body Butter
50g (RRP £5.00)

Unfortunately this is a product that I won't be able to use because of my allergies. Made up of whipped cocoa butter, virgin coconut oil, babassu oil, avocado oil and vitamin E, it has all the right ingredients to be super nourishing. I'm sure this is something that I'd have loved if I could use it.

Fresh Therapies Nourishing Natural Nail Polish Remover Wipes
55g (RRP £7.50)

This is another product which I won't be able to use due to allergies, which is a real shame because you know how much I love doing my nails. There are ten sachets in the box, all of which contain one nail polish remover wipe, which apparently is enough to remove a complete manicure. The wipes are said to be "gentle on the nails and cuticles with no harsh drying effect ... have a fresh lime scent with no lingering reminder of your polish remover". I'm sure these are something that most people would love to get in their box, as would I if I could use them.

Hedgerow Herbals Bath Bags - Oww
3x10g (RRP £4.50)

Yet another thing which I can't use! I don't have a bath, so would only be able to use these as a foot soak, which I think is a complete waste. I'd rather give them to someone else to use as they're intended. There are three large tea bag-like pouches that contain herbs and (I think) dried flowers to steep in your bath for when you're feeling a bit achey. Apparently there are three varieties; Zzz, Mmm and Oww, I got Oww which smells very fresh, almost like potpourri. It's not something that I personally gravitate to, but if you like floral scents I'm sure you'd like this.

I'm sure you understand now why I'm disappointed with this box; I can only use two products from it and one of those is a sample. I'm not blaming The Vegan Kind at all, I know that when I subscribe to a mystery box I take the risk of getting something I cannot use. I'm also slightly disappointed that there is so little selection in the box, four out of the five products are skin care. On the whole I'd still recommend The Vegan Kind Beauty Box, it's a great concept, particularly if you have no allergies. Unfortunately I will be cancelling my subscription, I'd rather save the money and spend it on products I know I can use.

Are you subscribed to any beauty boxes? Maybe you have another suggestion for me?
