Manicure Monday | Models Own Velvet Goth in Valerian

After my bad experience with Amethyst from the Velvet Goth collection, I was hesitant to try another so soon. I had a feeling that if the formula was the same I wouldn't want to pick up another bottle, which would be bad considering I have all 5 of them. But I was looking through my polishes for today's manicure and my eyes just kept going back to this gorgeous sapphire blue glitter.

Valerian is a very deep blue bordering on black with blue sapphire and silver glitter of differing sizes. It dries to a matte finish which makes it quite unique and is opaque in 2 coats. As much as I enjoyed the matte finish of Valerian, it was just too uneven to be left without a self levelling top coat, so the photos here show 2 coats of Seche Vite.

The formula is, thankfully, a lot better than Amethyst. It's still not amazing, but it's a lot easier to work with. I don't know what it is, but it applies as if it's sticky, I really don't know how else to describe it, it feels like glue as you're brushing it on. Having said that, I really do like the end result, enough that I'm willing to overlook its flaws and won't hesitate to wear it again.

Valerian reminds me a lot of the night sky in autumn, which is perfect right now, so I decided to add a few silver star shaped nail studs. I bought mine from Amazon in a selection pack for only 72p, with free delivery.

Models Own Velvet Goth in Valerian is available online here and in Superdrug stores nation wide and online for £5.

What do you think of this polish? Would a so-so formula be enough to put you off using a nail polish?
